Obituary of Delma N. Schriefer
Delma Schriefer, 82, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2018 and returned to her heavenly home. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Delma was born to Antonio and Carmen Sepulveda, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on January 26, 1936. At the young age of 9 years old, Delma and her family moved to Chelsea in New York City prior to moving to Staten Island where she was raised with her brothers and sisters. It was as a young adult that she encountered the love and strength in her Christian faith. She was immersed in her Christian community at Mission Christian Rehoboth Church for over 55 years, whereshe would go on to teach Sunday school, drive the church bus and assist with Rehoboth's activities.
Delma was blessed with two wonderful daughters, Rita Rivera and Debra Jean Bruno, whom she had with her husband William R. Schriefer. Delma helped raised her two children as a single mother with patience, discipline and humility. She taught them from the very beginning devotion to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the God's word by regularly attending Sunday school at church.
Delma was a loving grandmother and great grandmother to Darius Tavernier, Michael Rivera, Martina Bruno, Emilio Bruno, Montana Tavernier, and Javen Rivera, which all were her number one priority in life. She was kind and compassionate, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how big or small. She truly had a heart of gold by providing help to all those who needed it. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator.
Delma is survived by her brothers and sisters, Rosa Minutolo, Sonia Trigo, Miriam Schriener, Sylvia Sepulveda, Manuel Sepulveda, George Sepulveda, Douglas Sepulveda, Anthony Sepulveda and Michael Sepulveda. Delma has joined her brothers, Elihu Sepulveda, John Sepulveda and Naval Sepulveda, in their heavenly home.
