Obituary of Charles Vito Margiotta

Charles "Charlie" Margiotta, 82, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2018. Charlie was born in Brooklyn and moved to Staten Island as a child. He settled in Westerleigh to raise his family. Charlie was the owner of Gemini Offset Lithography in Manhattan for 25 years before opening Margiotta Sporting Goods on Staten Island in 1981. Charlie was predeceased by his son, Lt. Charles Margiotta, FDNY, who was killed on 9-11. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Amelia "Molly" Margiotta (nee Glenn), son, Michael Margiotta, daughter in laws Patricia and Norma, 4 grandchildren, Michael and his wife Katerina, Sarah, Norma Jean and her husband Rob Adams, Charles and 1 great grandchild, Evelyn Iris Adams. Charlie excelled in football and baseball at Curtis High School. In 1953, Charlie was selected as a Journal American All-Star and played the U.S. All-Stars at the Polo Grounds. Charlie played baseball and football at the most competitive levels in the NYC area, winning numerous League, City and State Championships. In 1971, Charlie won the ASA medium-pitch batting title. Although Charlie's individual sports accomplishments in baseball, softball and football were many, he will be best remembered as the President of the Staten Island Touch Tackle League. Charlie ran the league for 6 decades. His leadership and organizational skills propelled the league's growth, which provided a competitive venue for over 50,000 players over the leagues 59-year history. Charlie was a very "Public Figure" who led a very "Private Life". His family was the most important thing in his life. "He was the hub of our world", said son Michael. Charlie enjoyed family barbecues, Sunday dinners and holidays with his extended family. Nothing made Charlie happier than his grandchildren. He had the most happiness in his life watching his grandchildren participate in the sports that he played in his younger years. Charlie was a diehard fan of the New York Giants and New York Mets. He could be heard cursing at the TV as he suffered through every Met game. He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City with his wife Molly and his grandson Michael. Funeral Service will be held at the Matthew Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Thursday 8:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday and Thursday 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM. Private Cremation to follow.
