Obituary of Joan Thorsen

Joan Thorsen, 72, passed away on October 17th, 2018 at Addeo Hospice on Staten Island, due to complications of cancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, son and daughter-in-law, 3 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. Joan was born on August 22, 1946. A lifelong Staten Islander, she attended beauty culture school at McKee high school. She had many fond memories of her unique life experiences, including dancing with the Beatles, having coffee with Sophia Loren, and appearing on American Bandstand. She always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. Joan was very proud of her English heritage, which sparked an interest in genealogy. She found several living family members during her searches, and recently attended a wedding in England to finally meet her extended family. She also visited a pub that had been owned by her family for many years, which was a very important part of her visit. She was thrilled to see where her family had originated. Above all, Joan was a loving mother and grandmother, and she valued every moment she spent with her family. She will be greatly missed. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd. A Memorial Service will be held at Matthew Funeral Home on Tuesday, 10/23/18 at 7:00 PM. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, 10/23/18 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
