Obituary of Helen J. Melde

Helen J. Melde (nee Bolewicz), age 92, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2018, at Richmond University Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Bernard (1979); loving mother of Carolyn Sutter-Melde and her husband Dr. Alfred Sutter, Kenneth Melde and his wife Karen Melde, Lori Sellitti and her husband Donald Sellitti; cherished grandmother of Christopher and Lauren Melde, Nikolas and Christian Sellitti. Helen was also survived by her longtime companion, James Tornillo. Helen was born on Staten Island in 1926 and raised in Elm Park and was a graduate of Port Richmond High School. She was a former member of the Staten Island Ballroom Dancers and enjoyed being a member of the YMCA. Helen especially enjoyed ballroom and country dancing. She was proud to have co-owned the former Silvie Funeral Home with her late husband, Bernard. Mrs. Melde also had a passion for travelling all over the world and shopping. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org). Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, departing at 10:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church at 11 am. Interment will follow in Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Monday from 8:00 am to 10:30 am.
