Obituary of George Castris

George Castris, 92, of Westerleigh, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Vanthea (63 years); loving father of Maria DiLauro (Antonio) and Terry Castris (Suzan); cherished grandfather of Vanessa and Alexandra Castris, and Cupcake. Mr. Castris was born in Athens, Greece and came to the States in 1945, after serving in the Greek Navy during WWII. He settled first in Astoria, then to Brooklyn and finally to Staten Island. He was employed for many years running the bar and grill at Silver Lake Golf Course Restaurant and also bartended at Garguilio's Restaurant in Coney Island. George was extremely proud of his green thumb and vegetable garden. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., on Friday, departing at 9:30 am, with a service scheduled at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 10am. Interment to follow in Moravian Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
