Obituary of George W. Porto
George W. Porto age 95, passed away on January 10, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Anna Porto for over 71 years. He was the loving father of George Porto Jr and his wife Nancy, Robert Porto and his wife Amy, and Ann Marie Porto-Riccardi and her husband Joseph Riccardi and the late Alfred G. Porto and his wife Donna. He was the cherished grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was the fond uncle of many nieces and nephews
George was born and raised in Mariners Harbor, Staten Island and married his loving wife Anna in 1947. They settled in New Brighten and raised their children. He was a WW2 Veteran, serving under General Patton, 3rd Army , and General Bradley, 1st Army . He fought in Normandy Omaha Beach, Battle of the Bulge, Africa , Sicily, Italy and Germany earning 5 battle stars with numerous bravery commendations.
He retired from the Staten Island Rapid Transit as a carpenter. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 135. He taught himself how to play the key board, enjoyed going to Atlantic City with his wife and completed a Sudoku every day. George will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He will be dearly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
