Obituary of Bernard J. Russo
Bernard (Bernie) J. Russo, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, passed away on Saturday Feb. 16, 2019, at the age of 76.
Bernie was a native Staten Islander, born and raised in New Brighton, to Salvatore and Mary (Iasiello). He was the husband of Janis (Procci) with whom he raised 2 children. Bernie proudly served his country in the US Army, stationed in Korea, and was a stockbroker for many years at both the New York and American Stock Exchanges. For the past 5 years he was a resident of the Delaware Water Gap area.
In addition to his wife, Janis, he is survived by his children, daughter Erika and her husband Eric Foster of Brooklyn, N.Y. and his son Michael of Austin, TX. He is also survived by his 2 grandchildren, Jackson and James Bernard Foster, his brothers William and Patrick and his faithful dog, Rocco. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald.
Bernie loved music and was a talented singer in his own right. He was a member of the doo-wop group, The Uniques, which led to a recording contract and a single that was a regional hit.
We are all poorer for having lost a loving husband and father, an adoring grandpa, a lifelong Yankee fan, an effortless photographer, and he made perhaps the world's best eggplant parmigiana.
Cremation was handled by the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home Inc. 23 N. 9th St. Stroudsburg, Pa.
Memorial Visitation will be held at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Saturday, 2/23, from 12:00 to 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a dog shelter of one's choice in memory of Bernie.
