Obituary of Thomas Guariano

Mr. Thomas Guariano, 81, of New Springville, formerly of Brooklyn, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2019.  He was the beloved husband of Eileen (nee Doelger), for 40 years; loving father of Laura Guariano, Jeannie Brownell and her husband, Frankie, Daniel Guariano, Susan Guariano, his adopted daughter Vanessa Christofilakes, and the late Edward Guariano; cherished grandfather of Deja Guariano, Justin Brownell and Gianna Brownell; dear brother of Bernadette Pagano, Anna Van Dyk, William Guariano, Edward Guariano, late Jeanette Porcello, late Mina Walters, late Madeline Kennedy, late Robert Guariano; devoted uncle to many loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Guariano was born in Brooklyn in 1938, raised in Midwood, and was graduated from Midwood High School.  Growing up, his neighbors were Barbara Streisand and Lainie Kazan.  He was employed for many years as an EMT, primarily with Midwood Ambulance Service.  He was an avid Mets fan, and also rooted for the NY Giants.  Thomas was a skilled singer, who sang Doo-Wop with Neil Sedaka  on the beach, and also had his own band (Tommy G. and the Gents).  Mr. Guariano was quite the comedian who enjoyed entertaining and telling jokes.  For many years he raised his children in the Berry Homes and was like a dad to all the kids there, and loved playing baseball with them.  Family was everything to him, especially doting over Justin and Gianna.  His daughters gushed over of him.   He lived with Jeannie and Frankie (his second son, AKA “fruitcake”) for 15 years, and referred to Susan as his “Second Mother.”  He was very grateful for his time spent living with Jeannie, Frankie and Justin and Gianna.  Thomas was very proud of his son Daniel, who is an NYPD Detective.

In lieu of flowers, family would appreciate donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Thursday, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 10:00 pm.  Service at the funeral home at 9 pm.  Arrangements include a private cremation.
