Obituary of Kenneth R. Ackermann

Kenneth R. Ackermann, age 87, passed away on June 18, 2019. He was the devoted son of the late William and Margaret Ackermann. He was the beloved husband of Sophie (nee Scamardella) for almost 60 years. He was the loving father of Sophie (Susie) Ackermann, William Ackermann and his wife Tisha and Irene Ackermann. He was the cherished grandfather of Tylar, Briana, Kyle and Shealie Ackermann. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Ken was born and raised on Staten Island. He attended McKee High School. Before graduating he made a brave and courageous decision to join the Army during the Korean War. He served from 1952 to 1954 and was honorably discharged for his dedication and commitment to his country. In 1960, Ken married the love of his life Sophie Scamardella. They were blessed with 3 wonderful children and raised their family on Staten Island. Ken was a proud member of the Korean War Veterans. Ken worked for the Metropolitan Transit Authority as an Electrician for over 20 years. Everyone knew Ken as "Kenny Bud" because of his appreciation for Bud Light beer. Ken loved telling jokes and making people laugh. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved watching baseball especially his beloved New York Mets. Ken was a wonderful man who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd., On Saturday, 6/22/19, departs at 9:15 AM. Funeral Mass will be held in Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Friday, 6/21/19, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
