John has been a friend since grade school, through high school and although we attended different colleges we would still run into each other nearly every weekend at one of Staten Island's finer drinking establishments of the day, sharing good stories while having a great time. It was the Kings Row Bar where he and another mutual friend introduced me to, my wife of nearly 40 years, Susan Barnes; two grown children later, I remain forever in John's debt.
Like many of Johns friends, I reconnected with him at our elementary school reunions and although the years had come and gone, John remained the same charming, considerate and easy going person that I had remembered.
Susan and I are deeply saddened by his passing and we send our most heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.
May John rest in peace and rise in glory.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any manʼs death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.

I had the privilege of knowing John for many years. We were classmates in kindergarten (PS 48), elementary school (grades 1 through 8 at Saint Sylvester’s), and High School (Monsignor Farrell). Like many others from the “old neighborhood,“ our families spent many summers together at Brady’s Pond (the Cameron Club). John, his parents, his brothers and sister are the salt of the earth.
Over the past several years,I had the opportunity to reconnect with John and many of my classmates at some of the class reunions precipitated by the closing of Saint Sylvester’s School. I discovered then that not much had changed over the intervening decades. John was still the same kind, caring, and good-natured soul that I always remembered him to be.
The Class of ‘68 has added another to the Eternal Honor Roll.
Go in Peace my friend.

It is impossible for me to remember a time when I did not know the Ryans. John and I went first through eighth grades together at Saint Sylvester’s School, and, living around the corner from each other, we’d see one another at the lake all summer. Thankfully, we reconnected at a couple of recent reunions at Basilio’s. He will be missed by all of us.
May John rest in peace and rise in glory.
