Obituary of Elvina Joshi
Elvina Joshi, 93, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2019. She was the beloved wife of the late Gunvantrai (1986); loving mother of Raju Joshi and his wife Pearly; cherished grandmother of Adam and Joshua Joshi; dear sister of Mildred Gamadia and her husband, Mike and the late John; devoted aunt of Morris and Muriel Gamadia, and Hammond and Joyce Peters.
Elvina was born in Surat, Gujurat, India, in 1926. She worked for many years as a clerk for the government in India. She emigrated to the United States in 1980, settling in Lynbrook, Long Island, before moving to Brooklyn and then relocating to Staten Island. Mrs. Joshi was an excellent cook, with a great taste in fashion, who was extremely outgoing, and enjoyed life to its fullest. Elvina loved to meet new people and spend time with her family and friends. She was an active member of the Second Evangelical Free Church on 7th Avenue and 52nd Street in Brooklyn.
Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Friday, 8/2, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, with a service at 7:30 pm on Friday, and at 9:30 am on Saturday. Interment to follow the service on Saturday in Rosedale Cemetery, Linden, NJ.
