Obituary of John Silva

Mr. John Silva, age 57, passed away on September 26, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Jo-Ann Silva (nee Pormigiano) for 25 years; dear uncle of Michele Vazzo, Ashley, Michael, Salvatore, Samantha, and Joseph Pormigiano, Christina Marie and Anthony Masi, Matthew, Daniel, Joseph and Rebekah Barusch; fond great uncle of Angela and David Horan, and Gianna Masi; dear brother of Ralph Silva and his wife, Jennifer, Rosemarie Barusch and her husband, Lawrence; devoted cousin of Michael and Nancy Fowler; loving son-in-law of John Pormigiano; beloved brother-in-law of Salvatore, John, and Christina Pormigiano. John was born in Brooklyn in 1962, and raised there. He graduated from Aviation High School in Queens, and attended the College of Aeronautics, also in Queens. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was employed by the NYC MTA for 28 years. In his spare time he enjoyed the beach, fishing, and listening to music. John had a "devilish" smile and larger than life personality. Most importantly, he enjoyed his time spent with his family. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Tuesday at 8:45 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Teresa's R.C. Church at 9:30 am. Interment to follow in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. Family and friends will be received on Monday, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 10:00 pm.
