Obituary of Delicia McEvilly

Delicia R.B. McEvilly, 72 of Castleton Corners passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 16, 2019, at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital. Delicia was born on June 23, 1947, to the late Emanuel and Josephine Bucchieri, in New York City. Delicia married the love of her life, the late John McEvilly, on April 24, 1971. They moved to Castleton Corners in 1982 where they started their family together. Delicia worked for the Department of Education for over 40 years as a teacher until her retirement in 2012, and continued to work part-time until three weeks ago. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking for large family gatherings. She was an avid reader and loved to travel with family and friends. Delicia is survived by her daughter, Marietta McEvilly Cowan and her husband Jim, and light of her life, her granddaughter Josephine. She is also survived by her sisters Marietta Vaccaro and Leonora Oddo, and her husband Joseph. She was an adored aunt to Vanessa DeLuca and Peter McEvilly. She was a loving great aunt to Diana, Addison, and Avery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, October 17, 2019, and 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday October 18, 2019 at Matthews Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:45 AM on Saturday at St. Theresa Church located at 1634 Victory Blvd Staten Island, New York 10314. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
