Obituary of Cosmo Cambareri

Cosmo Cambareri, 96, of Willowbrook, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2019, at his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Jennie (2016) for 68 years; loving father of Elizabeth Victor and her husband Jeffrey, and Donald Cambareri; cherished grandfather of Douglas Victor and his wife Danielle, Jessica Victor and her husband Daniel Pehrson, Gregg Cambareri, and Katherine Cambareri; devoted great-grandfather of Alexis Victor; dear sister of Marion Tortorice, late Margaret Panico, late Dick, late Jim, and the late Joe Cambareri. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Cambareri was born in New York City in 1923, raised in Little Italy, and graduated from Seward High School in Manhattan. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, being stationed in France, Belgium and Germany and earned the prestigious Purple Heart Medal. He relocated to Staten Island in 1978. For 41 years he worked as a Shipping Manager and Union Shop Steward for the Halpern and Christenfeld Clothing Manufacturers. Cosmo enjoyed golfing, Atlantic City, card playing, and being an avid sports fan, rooting for the NY Yankees and Giants. Cosmo also enjoyed an occasional cigar. As per his family he was a prolific reader. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter. In lieu of Flowers, donations in Cosmo's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Friday, departing at 9:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church at 10 am. Interment to follow in Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm.
