Obituary of Carmine J. Fallacara

Carmine J. Fallacara, 90, of West Brighton, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2019. He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine (2008); loving father of Aida Stentella, Evelyn Raymond, Karen Sortino (Frank), Mary Ann Fallacara; cherished grandfather of Jamison Raymond, Anthony Stentella, Robert Stentella (Melissa), Frankie Sortino; dear brother of the late Louis Fallacara. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Carmine was born on Staten Island in 1929, raised in West Brighton and graduated from McKee High School. After high school he was drafted and served proudly in the Army for two years in Korea. When he arrived home from serving in the Army, he began a 24 year career with the Department of Sanitation, retiring as an Assistant Foreman in 1976. He was known as "the whip man," owning a portable kiddie whip ride, travelling to various feasts and block parties. Carmine also enjoyed square and round dancing, being a former member of the Ocean Waves Club. In addition he was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed trips to Atlantic City. Most importantly, he loved time spent with his family. Carmine was a member of the VFW Post 248 and the American Legion Merrill Post (previously serving as Post Commander and chaplain of the VFW) and also was a Knight of Columbus, and a member of the former Westwood Social Club and the former Staten Island chapter of the Deborah Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Saturday, departing at 9:15 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Benedicta R.C. Church at 10 am. Entombment will follow in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonnia, NJ. Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm and Friday, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
