Obituary of Ruth Macecsko

Ruth Macecsko (nee Ryan), age 92, passed away on January 23, 2020. She was the devoted daughter of the late Henry and Elsie Ryan. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Zajonc and the late George Macecsko. She was the fond sister of Beverly Lombardi , Arlene Gritschke and the late Doris Pugliese, David and Daniel Ryan. She was the loving mother of Barbara Antonellos, Thomas Zajonc, David Zajonc, Cheryl Zajonc, Billy Zajonc and the late Judith Reno. She was the cherished grandmother of Jeanne, Jason, Eddie, Derek, Jacqueline, Brooke, Raymond, Denise, Matthew, Daniel, Alexa, Kayla, Steven and Eric. She was the dear great grandmother of DJ, Nancy-Leigh, Sloane-Judith, Dillon, James and Lilianna. Ruth was born on September 15, 1927 and grew up in Staten Island. She was a graduate of Port Richmond High School. Ruth worked as a volunteer during World War II. When she was in her teens she met a man, Edward Zajonc at Stechman's Ice Cream Parlor in Port Richmond. They quickly fell in love and got married and lived on John Street in Elm Park and were blessed with six beautiful children. Together they opened a tavern, Zajonc's Inn. Ruth's husband unfortunately passed away in 1966. In 1970 she met George Macecsko and married him until his passing in 1989. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and loved everyone so dearly. She had several nieces who called her daily. Ruth was a competitive bowler and was recognized as the top female bowler on Staten Island for several years. Throughout her life Ruth was a dedicated New York Yankee fan who loved watching games on TV as well as attending in person. Ruth was full of life and enjoyed dancing and singing. In her spare time, she enjoyed trips to Atlantic City with friends and family. Ruth will be remembered as a kind, pleasant person who always had a smile on her face. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know her. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, 1/27/2020, departing at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church, 366 Watchogue Road at 10:00 AM. Family and friends may visit on Sunday. Viewing from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Cremation private.
