Obituary of Charles T. Lawler

Charles T. Lawler, age 96, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Josephine Lawler (nee Moliterni). He was the loving father of Cynthia Vroome and Thomas Lawler. He was the dear grandfather of Donald Vroome. Upon graduating, Charles was immediately drafted into the Army in the first group of draftees' right out of high school. Unfortunately, while serving in the Army he was captured by the German forces and was a prisoner of war (POW) for roughly 6 months. He proudly served his country honorably and with the utmost courage and bravery. After returning home, Charles furthered his education by attending and graduating from Stevens Institute of Technology where he studied engineering and drafting, ultimately becoming a mechanical draftsman and working for RCA. At RCA he worked on Sky Lab, the first U.S. Space Station in 1973. Charles was proud to be a deacon at Son Rise Faith Church for over 30 years. He met his wife Josephine at a dance. They were married in 1955 and spent the next 65 years raising their family and sharing many wonderful moments together. Charles was part of the greatest generation; he grew up during the depression and had to be strong and hard working to survive. Throughout his life he was very generous and made sure he provided for his family in a way that his parents were unable to afford when he was young. Charles will be remembered as a kind man who always was willing to help out a friend or neighbor in need. He touched many lives over the years and he will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard. On Monday, 2/17/2020, family and friends may visit from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. On Tuesday, 2/18/2020, a service will be held in the funeral home at 10:00 AM.
