Obituary of Eileen Rose Carney

Eileen Rose Carney (nee McGuire) age 86, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2020. Eileen was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Arthur F. Carney, who died in 2005. She was also predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Mary, as well as her sisters, Muriel, Lillian, Theresa, Mary, Joan and brother Genie. Eileen was the devoted mother to Michael, Tommy, Jean Marie, Nancy, Joan and Robert. She was predeceased by her daughter in law Annette, and survived by Sons in law, Fred, Terry and Salvatore and daughters in law, Margaret, Barbara, Marita and Helen. Eileen leaves 14 heartbroken grandchildren, Billy, Sara, Melissa, Erin,Christina, Nancy, Tommy, Caity, Victoria, Michael, Philip, Amanda, Samantha and Salvatore. Recently she was blessed with 7, soon to be 9, great grandchildren, Henry, William, Charles, Wayland, Owen, Nikolas and Luke. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Eileen worked as a switchboard operator for the old Ma Bell Telephone Company. She met Art, and upon his return from the Navy, they fell in love and married in 1953. When the family expanded to six children they relocated to Staten Island in 1962. Settling in Castleton Corners and calling that home for a quarter of a century. When nearby Susan Wagner High School opened, Eileen rejoined the workforce in the school's cafeteria. In 1986, with their children grown, the couple moved to Melborne, Florida, to enjoy their retirement years in the warm sun. She loved to ride her bicycle through a nearby park and maintained an active lifestyle. Both Eileen and Art were devoted Catholics and dedicated parishioners of Ascension Catholic Church. They enjoyed volunteering on many committees as well as serving as Eucharistic Ministers. They enjoyed traveling together and embarked upon many trips throughout the United States as well as Ireland. Shortly after relocating to Melborne, their daughter Nancy and granddaughter Nancy moved in, around the corner. This is when Eileen discovered her true calling. She was reborn as Grandmother Extraordinaire,known as her grandchildren's beloved Nani. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and they adored her. They all visited often and spent many happy times at Florida's amusement parks and enjoyed quality time with Grandpa and Nani. Upon Art's passing, Eileen lived with her daughters, splitting time between New Jersey and Florida. She became a resident of Seaview Nursing Home in 2013. Her family will be forever grateful for the care displayed by the staff towards Eileen. Eileen will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She'll be remembered for her funny personality and genuine love for her family. She was a kind and generous woman who could always bring a smile to your face. The next generations of her family will grieve her loss, but remember the good times we shared together. Memorial Visitation at Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Friday, 2/21/2020 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. On Saturday, 2/22/2020, a Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Pity Church, 1616 Richmond Avenue, at 11:00 AM. FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO MEET AT OUR LADY OF PITY CHURCH.
