Remembering Those Who Served

As Memorial Day is on the horizon, we look for ways to honor those who have fought for our country. Memorial Day for many people is a time for barbeques and parades. But, many people have lost a close loved one to war. This article will discuss some ways to honor those who paid their lives in service to our country. 

Planting Flags at a Cemetery

Many churches and cemeteries organize flag placements for the graves of veterans and those who have died during their service on military holidays. Ask your local cemetery if they are organizing an event. They usually require help from volunteers in the community. The cemetery office will generally provide the flags, along with maps that show which gravesites require flags. 

Donate to a Trusted Veteran Organization

One way to honor those we’ve lost is to help the living. Making a donation to an organization that helps veterans and/or their families. Alternatively, consider donating your time, or attending a fundraising event for veterans in need. 

Send a Care Package to Those In Service

Helping current service members is a great way to support the troops. There are many programs that provide relief and care packages for those serving overseas. Research what care package services operate in your area and find one that you can trust. Each organization may have different requirements on what they can send. Additionally, some may be in need of certain supplies over others. Check the website of your chosen organization for more information.
