Remembering Mom On Mother's Day

As Mother’s Day draws closer, it can be hard to avoid all the greeting card stands and gift displays in stores. After losing your mother, the upcoming holiday can feel bittersweet. Below, we will discuss some ways to honor your mom or grandmother’s memory on Mother’s Day.

Visit the Cemetery

A cemetery visit on or around Mother’s Day is often a common practice. Many people choose to leave flowers by the memorial stone, or just sit by the grave and reminisce. For some, this can be a family outing with the kids. Consider planning ahead, or going on a day leading up to Mother’s Day to avoid crowds. You may want to call first, to inquire about what section of the cemetery your loved one is in.

Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking is a nice way to get creative while organizing family photos. Consider making a scrapbook centered around your mom’s life, or highlighting the women of your family.

Watching Mom’s Favorite Movies

Movies and shows can have a big impact on us. Whether your mother loved dramas, comedies, action, or musicals, consider watching some of your mother’s favorite movies for the holiday. This can help you feel connected to your loved one, and reminisce.

Share Memories with Loved Ones

Sharing stories, favorite memories, and experiences can be a cathartic way to deal with the grief surrounding a loss. Consider spending time with your siblings or other family members, and share memories of your loved one. This can be a good way to learn more about them, reminisce, and combat feelings of loss.
