Obituary of John J. Vaselli
John J. Vaselli, age 72, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2020. Devoted son of the late Luigi and Letteria Vaselli, brother of Catherine DeGrado, beloved husband to MaryAnn for 48 beautiful years. Wonderful father to John, Stephanie, and late Danielle. Loving father-in-law to Jennifer and Derek, and world's best grandpa to Julianna, Gabriella, and Johnny. Loving brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, godfather, neighbor, and friend. Proud Veteran of the United States Army.
John Vaselli was born in Brooklyn on August 23, 1948. After his service, in the US Army, he met the love of his life, MaryAnn. During those 48 incredible years, John and MaryAnn moved from Brooklyn to Staten Island and taught their children the value of a loving and devoted family.
Together, John and MaryAnn built a life filled with unconditional love and laughter. The love and passion they have for one another is unique.
Big John lived for spending time with his son "Little John". Little John was his best friend and often referred to as "Champ". They spent countless hours on the family boat alongside their first mates, Julianna, Gabriella and Johnny.
John was in his glory when he and daughter Stephanie, "his princess," made traditional homemade Italian liquors, such as anisette, amaretto, limoncello, and kahlua for holiday gifting.
John adored spending time with his daughter in law, Jennifer, and his three grandchildren. He lived for putting smiles on their faces.
John thoroughly enjoyed his family casino trips. He would often say "the machines are calling me." After 28 years working for United Parcel Service, John retired and chose work as a school bus driver, bringing smiles to children's faces. John took great pride as a Commercial Driver's License instructor. He often taught courses to friends and family.
John Vaselli leaves a legacy of unconditional love, generosity, tradition, and fun. He had the heart that cared completely. He had that smile that lit up a room. He had the love that brought joy beyond measure. To know Big John, was to love him. He was simply a remarkable man.
