Obituary of Rosemary T. Salaycik

Rosemary T. Salaycik, 70 Educator, devout Catholic, world traveler Rosemary T. Salaycik, 70, of Meiers Corners, a lifelong educator and devout Catholic, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving friends and family after a long illness on April 10. Rosemary was born in Bayonne, NJ, to Stephen and Irene Salaycik and raised on Staten Island. She attended Blessed Sacrament School, St. Peter's High School for Girls, and the former Richmond College. She earned advanced degrees in education from the former Richmond College and the Archdiocesan Catechetical Institute of St. Joseph's Seminary, Dunwoodie, Yonkers. Rosemary taught generations of Staten Islanders throughout her forty-year career as an educator in both public and parochial elementary schools. Rosemary was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament parish in West New Brighton. There she served the community as a founding member of the parish's Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program, lector, CCD teacher, member of the parish council, and member of the Ladies of Charity. Through her efforts, she prepared countless children and adults for initiation into the Catholic Church. Rosemary was a world traveler who enjoyed visiting far-off places and experiencing their different cultures. When Rosemary was not traveling, she appreciated reading, playing mahjong, and painting. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Rosemary is survived by her brothers Stephen and Paul, her sister Janet Formisano, her brother-in-law Robert Formisano, sister-in-law Anne Salaycik, many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and dear friends.
