Obituary of Anthony Joseph Trapani

Anthony J. Trapani, 83, of Staten Island, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 10th, 2021, surrounded by family at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, PA. Born and raised in Staten Island, NY he graduated from Curtis High School in 1955. Anthony then proudly served in the Army and Army Reserve Corp. for 4 years during which time he married his one and only beloved Sandra in April of 1962. They happily raised their 2 children, John and Joy while residing in Westerleigh. Anthony worked for Con Edison for 35 years, retiring as a Senior Safety Inspector in 1999. He was well known for his involvement in the Local 3 IBEW, where he served as Chairman of the Union for a number of years. He was a devoted parishioner of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church as well as an active member of the Holy Name Society. Tony was a member of the Elks, Lodge No. 841 in Staten Island. Tony volunteered and served on the Board for the Stockings With Care charity for many years. He was an integral part of the operations and growth of the charity, always finding a solution to keep things running smoothly. Anthony liked to say his hobby was his grandchildren. He could always be spotted cheering from the sidelines of countless sporting events, recitals, and any and every activity they participated in. The quintessential Pop Pop, his grandchildren were cherished. He loved cooking many Italian specialties for his family and coordinating family gatherings. Tony enjoyed organizing social gatherings for his Con Ed colleagues, grammar school and high school friends. He also enjoyed fishing and went on many fishing trips with friends. Tony was at his best when someone needed help. He was the ultimate Mr. Fix It and loved helping family and friends. Tony is predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Sandy. He is survived by his son, John Trapani and his wife, Patti of Bethlehem, Pa; his daughter Joy and her spouse, Eileen of New Paltz, NY; and three grandchildren, Anthony, Mara and Angelina. Anthony is also survived by his sisters, Francis, Vincenza, and Marie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Judes. Visitation at Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd, Staten Island on Tuesday, 12/14 from 4-8pm and Wednesday, 12/15 from 9-10am followed by Mass at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church at 10:30am. A private cremation to follow.
