I only met Stephen during King Lear. In both our respective times, I had never met a more unapologetically open-hearted and compassionate actor before. We may have played kin onstage, but during and well after the show he treated me as an extension of our staged father-son relationship. What’s more, for him to rent out space in honor of our last show and my birthday was a mark of how paternal and unconditional his love was in all aspects of life. I’ll ne’er soon forget him, and I know I won’t be alone in that. Rest easy, Stephen, my father Gloucester. Love, Jake (your Edgar)

I met Stephen in the late 1970s in NYC. We were actors. My husband and I were married at City Hall and Stephen was our witness. He brought flowers and was snapping pictures through the ceremony. He was always so much fun and so kind and generous. We had many good times with Stephen and I will miss him. I send my heartfelt condolences to all his loved ones.

I want to send my deepest condolences to Stephen’s family and wife Marlene. I had the pleasure of working with Stephen Scott in a play and aside from talented, he was the kindest, and most generous scene partner one could ask for. And a real humanitarian. He became an instant friend and mentor to me in my pursuit of both acting and law. He is truly one of the best people I’ve ever met and I’m grateful to have known him. Words fail to express the loss of Stephen to the theatre community, especially Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre. His presence on stage with us was a gift that we will cherish forever. Steve was a warm, wonderful man who will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. We shared a law office in the 1990s and he would usually be the first person I saw in the morning. Steve would greet me with that ear-to-ear smile and then at least two bars of song from one of his past Broadway shows (if he was in a really good mood, I would be treated with a little dance routine as well). We had not seen each other recently but our shared political views kept us in near constant Face Book contact. I was so pleased when he met and married Marlene. I know she made the years they spent together the happiest of his life. My condolences to Marlene and his son Jaime. Life will not be the same without Stephen Robert Scott.
