Obituary of Stephen Robert Scott

Stephen Robert Scott, a dedicated advocate for the indigent accused and acclaimed actor of stage and screen, passed away peacefully in his Staten Island home on November 20, 2022, in the company of his adoring wife, Marlene Vasquez. He was 73 years old. Steve was born in Denver. Colorado on October 11, 1949, to Robert and Rose Scott. He was an accomplished singer, dancer and musician in his youth. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Denver in 1971, he, like many young aspiring artists, moved across the country to New York City with big hopes and dreams. There, he found much success as an actor. Under the name Steve McNaughton, he performed in six Broadway shows. Among them, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat where he originated the role of Levi. Steve also performed in several Off-Broadway plays, including Jospeh Papp’s production of Hamlet in 1982. He also appeared as a series regular in popular television soap operas like All My Children and Edge of Night. After a successful career in acting, Steve redirected his energies to pursue a career as an attorney. He graduated from the City University of New York School of Law in 1995 and commenced his legal career with the Criminal Defense Practice of the Legal Aid Society. He later opened a successful private practice where he specialized in criminal and immigration law. A seasoned litigator and fierce advocate, Steve enjoyed fighting for all his clients and had many hard fought victories over the years. Judges, adversaries, and colleagues all knew Steve to be a consummate gentleman with an untiring work ethic. Many young attorneys learned from Steve’s experience and tutelage and everyone marveled at the passion and dedication he had for his work. Steve was the loving father of Jamie Scott of Phoenix, Arizona. Steve and Jamie shared a love of baseball and created many beautiful memories at Yankee Stadium together. He was also the beloved son-in-law to Angel and Lillian Vasquez, adored brother-in-law to Evelyn and David Rabenold, and fun-loving uncle to Tyler and Gemma Rabenold. He also leaves behind his sister, Cheryl Zeitlin of Denver, Colorado. Steve was quick to tell all his loved ones that he loved them, and even more inclined to remind the world how much he loved and appreciated his life with his wife, Marlene. Marlene and Steve had a timeless love that will never die. Although Steve is no longer with us physically, his memory and love will remain forever in our hearts. In Lieu of Flowers the family would appreciate donantions be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in his memory.
