Obituary of Alfred You
Al loved to cruise. In his honor, please feel free to dress in smart casual clothing.
Alfred You went home to be with the Lord on January 18, 2024, after his short battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at his home in Staten Island, surrounded by his family. He fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). He was 72 years old.
Alfred was born on May 31, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY to Lem and Hom Gill You. Alfred had 2 brothers, Peter and Robert You; and his oldest sister, Tien Lee. After graduating from City College with an engineering degree, he worked as a Systems Engineer for Eastman Kodak/Danka for 32 years, retiring in 2008.
Alfred met the love of his life, Cindy, on March 3, 1972. They married in 1975, bought a house and made a home for themselves and their three children in Dongan Hills, Staten Island. Alfred was a man of God, blessed with many talents and enjoyments: he loved working with his hands (i.e. he could fix or build anything!), traveling on cruises, fishing, caring for his 50+ koi fish who he knew each by name, cooking or being Cindy’s sous chef, gathering family and friends to a table overflowing with delicious homecooked food (he believed “happiness is homemade”), serving his church and community, especially in areas of children’s ministry and hospitality.
Alfred is survived and deeply loved by his wife and “Funny Face,” Cindy You of 48 years; his daughters, Kimberly Han and Jennifer Stanley; his son, Alfred You II; his six grandchildren: Tyler, Joshua, Chloe, Abby, Ethan, and Isaac; his sister Tien Lee, nieces, nephews, and his extended family, as well as many dear friends. He will be greatly missed.
Alfred expressed a deep desire and heart to invest in the faith of the next generation, so in lieu of flowers, please give donations payable to “International Christian Center” and write “Alfred You: children & youth ministries” in the memo section.
