Obituary of Albert G. Lutfey

Albert G. Lutfey, age 94, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 4, 2024. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret and father to Douglas Lutfey and his wife Sandi, Christine Di Lillo and her husband Patrick, John Lutfey, Rosalind Lutfey and Margaret Lutfey Krueger and her husband Garrett. Albert was the loving grandfather (Jiddo) to Kerri, David, Emily, Stephen, Nicole, Jessica, Niko and great grandfather to Lukas, Emma and Wesley. Al was born in Brooklyn and moved to Staten Island in 2004. He was a graduate of Saint Augustine’s High School in Park Slope and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Columbia College with a Bachelor of Art in History. He was also awarded the Phi Beta Kappa Key Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Performance from Columbia University in New York City. Al served in the US Army during the Korean conflict as a Merchant Marine Purser from 1952-1954. He attended Teachers College at Columbia and was awarded a Master of Art in Teaching. Al taught at McKinley Junior High School and retired from the school system as Assistant Principal. Al subsequently worked for Ross Medical University School of Medicine and Keytone Locksmith School as an administrator as well as volunteering as an EMT for BRAVO and serving on multiple school boards and community organizations in Brooklyn. After moving to Staten Island, he worked with Blessed Sacrament Church coordinating the Lectors schedule as he was deeply devoted to his faith. Al also proudly served as part of the Parish Counsel Organization with Blessed Sacrament. In his spare time Al enjoyed woodworking projects and just puttering around the house doing odd jobs and spending time with his family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Albert’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home 2508 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10314, Saturday March 16, 2024, departing at 10:15AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament at 11:00AM. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, 3/14 from 6-9PM and Friday, 3/15 from 2-4 and 7-9PM.
