Obituary of Joseph J. Brahn
Joseph J. Brahn, age 76, of Westerleigh, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2018, at Eger Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. He was the beloved husband of Sandra (nee Goldstein); loving brother of Helen Gioia, Mary T. Ferraro and her husband, Frank, Dorothy Olsen and her husband, Olaf, and James Brahn. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Joseph was born in 1942 and raised on Staten Island, and originally lived with his family in Travis. He was fun loving as a kid and kind hearted. Although he didn't have much he would give you "the shirt off his back." He married his wife Sandra and they resided in Westerleigh. He was employed by Con Edison where he was well liked by his co-employees. He retired early due to health problems. He enjoyed riding his scooter around the neighborhood where he was called the "Mayor of the Block." His family remembers him as "Having a Big Heart." He was kind and caring and loved his sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews. He was loved by everyone. His family, friends, co-workers, neighbors and anyone who met him liked him for his easy, caring nature. He will be truly missed. He served our country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Gold Star Post.
Joseph was a talented plumber, taper, and painter. He was an excellent dancer and in his younger days enjoyed going to Roscoes with his buddies and occasionally would end up in the "dog house" for a bit, for those few extra beers he drank. He was a good cook (lucky for Sandra) and made the best pancakes and pot roast. Joseph helped all of us whether he was lifting a toilet, changing a flat tire, painting a wall or just being a good friend. He would call all of his family on a daily basis with a "check-up" call and always asked how they were doing. Tuesday night was a reminder that "Dancing with the Stars" is on at 8:00 pm. The entire family will always love you and miss you until we meet again.
Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday, departing at 9:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R. C. Church at 10am. Interment to follow at Moravian Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm and Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
