Obituary of Steven D. Sosa
Steven D. Sosa, a retired FDNY firefighter and life-long Staten Island resident, died unexpectedly on February 28th, 2020 at Richmond University Medical Center. Steve was born on March 9th, 1957 in Manhattan, the second son of the late Michael A. Sosa and Carmelina Sosa (nee Caggiano). He grew up in Castleton Corners. He married the love of his life Debra Sosa (nee Galasso) and settled in Sunnyside where they raised their daughter Amanda Golat (nee Sosa).
Steve is remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, and a dear friend to many. He lived life to the fullest and had the ability to brighten up any room he stepped into.
Steve was a proud 32-year veteran of the FDNY, where he served as a firefighter and was assigned to E-253, L-83, and E-156. Throughout his career, he was cited numerous times for bravery including a save in 2010.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Steve was involved with numerous teams on the Island, as both player and coach. He was a fanatical Jet, Islander, Yankee and Knick fan. An avid rock music fan, Steve often went to live concerts. He also enjoyed spending summers in Long Beach Island, NJ, with his family, at his mother –in – law’s, Lorraine Galasso, whom he considered his second mom. He never turned down an opportunity to go to an event and often said with joy “I’m in!”
His true passion was his family. He was an amazing husband to Debra and father to Amanda and his son-in-law Daniel Golat, as well as a great brother to his seven brothers: Michael, William, Richard, Edward, Robert and Frank, as well as the late Daniel. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews, as well as his dog Saxon, who he described as his best friend.
‘Steve-O’ leaves a void that will be impossible to fill.
